An Equity Initiative to Address Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries

A National Report 2018 by Nepal NCDI Poverty Commission

The Nepal NCDI Poverty Commission, an entity established under the auspices of Global Lancet NCDI Poverty Commission has formally launched its National Report- 2018 on March 26, 2018. The report is first to be launched by Nepal commission. There are 11 countries under the Global commission which is planned to increase to 25 in next year. The commissioners of NCDI Poverty Commission, representatives from academic institutions, ministries, the international organizations, councils and societies attended the event. Dr. Pushpa Chaudhary, the secretary of Ministry of health emphasized in her remarks that the prevention and management of NCDIs should be focused now to overcome the burgeoning burden of the NCDIs in Nepal. Dr. Jos Vandlaer, WR, World Health Organization highlighted the issues mentioned in the report and emphasized that NCDI should be prioritized by the government. Dr. Gene Bukhman, Co-chair, and Dr. Indrani Gupta, commissioner from Global Lancet NCDI Poverty Commission delivered their remarks. The report presentation was followed by the discussion. The Nepal chapter of the NCDI Poverty Commission will continue its work with the dissemination of the findings and start implementing the recommendations and prioritized intervention as pilot project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The Commission will start its in-depth analysis on the childhood NCDI in the coming year.
