“Induction Program on Hospital Hygiene and Safety 2020”

Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University Hospital (Infection control team) organized an induction program from 6th – 10th January 2020 for its staffs. Same sessions for different group of participants were conducted for 5 days. There are a total of 63 hygienic staff, 29 kitchen staffs and 27 ward boys working to improve the quality of patient care at the hospital. It is of utmost importance that these staff gets refreshment training on a regular basis for the betterment of the hospital services.
The program focused on infection control practices such as hygiene (personal, environmental and food), hand hygiene, source of contamination, and precautions from needle prick injury, cleaning techniques for the beds and toilet, floor moping and transportation. The Dhulikhel hospital nurses and hygiene staffs performed lectures, hands on and demonstrations during the sessions. Alcohol based hand rub (ABHR) was demonstrated and later on fluorescence lamp (glowbug) was used in order to evaluate if hand hygiene by the participants was performed correctly or not. Re-demonstration was also performed as necessary. Another main motive of this program was to empower staff to involve in teaching learning activities.
