5th LAPAROSCOPIC WORKSHOP FOR NURSES, 2018

The famous Chinese proverb still resembles the present situation in medical field. Keeping this proverb in mind, Dhulikhel hospital surgery department and nursing department of operation theatre conducted 2 days of hand-on workshop on laparoscopic workshop for nurses who are working in operation theatre on 27th and 28th April 2018.
The main aim of this workshop was to enhance the knowledge, skill and practice regarding laparoscopic surgery and its instrumentation. There were a total of 27 participants from KU affiliated medical colleges i.e. Nobel Medical college and teaching hospital, Nepalgunj Medical college and teaching hospital, Lumbini Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital and other hospitals from Kathmandu valley, i.e. Patan Hospital, Nepal Police Hospital, Civil Hospital, Nepal-Korea Friendship Hospital, Dr. Iwamura Memorial Hospital and Madhyapur Hospital.  Eight nurses from Dhulikhel hospital also participated in this workshop.
On first day, theoretical sessions were conducted on basics of laparoscopic surgery, basic principles and procedures of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy and hernia repair. Similarly, there was hand-on and lecture about the preparation, handling, cleaning and care of the laparoscopic instruments. On second day, live operations were performed in the operation theatre where the participants got an opportunity to enhance their skill and practice on laparoscopic instrumentation.
The participants felt homely environment at Dhulikhel hospital and they also commented that there is a very good interpersonal relationship and communication between the staffs. Dhulikhel hospital’s aseptic practices and hygiene in operation theatre were also well appreciated by the participants.
