Nowadays not only females but even males are concerned about beauty and hair care. Among males, the most common concerning factor is baldness.
Premature baldness or baldness even at the very young age of around 20s to 30s has played a vital role in one’s confidence and self-esteem. “But does all baldness require hair transplant?” This seems to be an easy question but very hard to answer.
Hair transplant is a procedure where one takes normal hair from the donor site (especially the back of the head, beard, or chest hair) and implants it to the bald area. A good donor site always produces a good result. Hair transplant is a procedure of patience and requires a team of 4 to 6 to perform a complete procedure.
A person may not require a hair transplant whereas some require a single session or multiple. Thus, Trichoscopy (evaluation of scalp and hair disorders) is a must before hair transplant that gives clues to other concomitant hair conditions and the idea of response to the person.
The result following a hair transplant is another burning question, people often expect results as soon as a hair transplant.
6 -12 months is required for the complete result. Clients are always asked about their expectations and counseled regarding duration to see the result.
Hair Transplant is a surgical procedure where hair follicles are transplanted from one part of the body to the scalp. Unlike kidney or liver transplants; taking a graft from a near donor is not possible and ethical in a hair transplant. The part of the body from which the follicles are taken is called the donor site and the part of the scalp or face where follicles are placed is called the recipient site. The transplanted hair then takes the natural characteristics of the donor site and grows naturally. It can later be cut, shaved, or trimmed.

The FUE procedure generally takes 6-8 hours to complete. During the procedure, local anesthesia will make you completely pain-free. You can enjoy movies, the internet, or other means of entertainment during the procedure. You can eat and even take convenient breaks in between.
Recovery from hair transplantation procedure is fast and not complicated. Patients generally have no complaints when they come for 48 hours’ follow-up. Recovery from an FUE type of hair transplantation surgery takes about 24-48 hours.
The transplanted follicles are taken from areas where hair loss will not occur. As the hairs are taken from the back of the scalp are androgen resistant; the transplanted hair is of permanent nature. Patients may experience hair loss in other areas of their scalp or face but not the recipient site. The transplanted hair will initially crust and break out from the transplanted area after the surgery but will grow back within about six months. This happens because the hairs suffer a form of surgical stress. Surgeons usually prescribe medications to strengthen hair follicles to prevent the loss of non-transplanted hair after the surgery.
This is a very common question. However, the number of hair grafts needed depends upon the area of hair to be transplanted. Dhulikhel Hospital Kathmandu University hospital is a community-based, community-centered, tertiary care, university hospital located around 30 kilometers from the capital city of Kathmandu. The ancient city of Dhulikhel is also famous for its breath-holding natural sceneries, panoramic view of the mountain range, and historical and cultural monuments.
Dhulikhel hospital is a pioneer center for skincare services in Nepal including FUE and FUT hair transplants. Hair transplant has been started in the institute since 2014. Till 2018, the hospital has a record of transplanting more than 800 hair transplants. Quality care at an affordable rate is the prime motto of the department. The department is headed by Professor Dr. Dharmendra Karn, Who is the pioneer of lasers, hair transplant, and various dermatological Procedures in Nepal.
With the support of Professor Dr. Alex Ginzburg from Israel, the hospital organized the first hair transplant conference among 40 dermatologists of Nepal. Continuing with the educational activities, the department hosted another international symposium on hair transplant in the year 2017.
The cost of a hair transplant would depend upon the area to be transplanted and the number of grafts required. Rather than the cost per graft (which would be expensive for the client), the cost would depend upon the area to be transplanted. The cost starts from 50,000 NPR.
Apart from Hair transplant and Medical management of hair loss, the department provides services for Video-trichoscopy and Platelet-rich plasma therapy as well.
Video-trichoscopy is a novel tool that is just like an ultrasound of the hair and scalp. It gives ultra-microscopic details of the diseases of the hair. This can also be used to assess for hair growth after a hair transplant. Dhulikhel hospital is further a pioneer center for establishing trichoscopy in the country.
PRP therapy is the injection of platelet-rich plasma derived from our own blood. Platelets contain a lot of growth factors, and injection of which before or after hair transplant aids in hair growth.
